A bit irresponsible on her part, no?Mr. Nighttimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09546329409708860876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7342018740029766616.post-62982385180723720472008-05-22T13:01:00.000-04:002008-05-22T13:01:00.000-04:00This made me so angry I couldn't even finish watch...This made me so angry I couldn't even finish watching it. Isn't religion supposed to be about compassion, love, helping people in need?!? This is sickening. That poor boy...he can't help his condition. And he's trying to turn to religion, to something higher than himself, and they turn him away?? Must end comment now before I start swearing incontrolably.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7342018740029766616.post-9843895328741453632008-05-20T10:07:00.000-04:002008-05-20T10:07:00.000-04:00I appreciate the story for the way it makes obviou...I appreciate the story for the way it makes obvious what certain forms of religion are really about: not love and compassion and acceptance, but smooth adherence to forms and rituals. That's why the mom insisted her son take communion, prompting him to hit another child, and why the parish gets so upset that the boy disrupts services.

It also makes clear how readily people miss sort of obvious solutions. Mormon churches typically have rooms equipped with speakers so you can go to church and hear the service, but no one can hear you or your unruly teenager or crying baby or your babbling father who suffers from dementia. Someone shows up to offer you communion when that part of the service is held, but you don't have to worry about disturbing anyone, and you still get to feel like you're getting what you can out of the service. It's not necessarily ideal, but it beats a restraining order.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
